(USED) Randall RX120RH - 120-Watt Solid State Guitar Amp Head
Randall RX120RH – Used 120-Watt Solid State Guitar Amp Head – SKU
The overdrive channel on the RX120RH gives you Voicing and Contour controls on top of the usual gain and EQ, which is what lets this head go from thick classic-rock crunch to the scooped, tight-bottomed sound Randall built its reputation on. It’s a 120-watt solid-state head with separate clean and overdrive channels, dual three-band EQ, built-in spring reverb and a series effects loop.
Solid-state power means no tubes to bias, replace or baby — you plug it in and it works, which is exactly what you want in a first half stack, a practice-space amp, or a backup head that lives in the trailer. This one is used and priced accordingly. Call or text us at 814-371-5666 for current condition, photos, and what’s included with it.
Key Features
Voicing & Contour Controls
The overdrive channel gets two extra shaping controls, so you can reshape the midrange without touching the EQ you already dialed in.
120 Watts, Solid State
Plenty of output to stay over a drummer, with no tubes to warm up, bias or replace down the road.
Clean and Overdrive Channels
Two independent channels let you set a clean sound and a lead sound once, then jump between them mid-song.
Dual 3-Band EQ
Each channel gets its own bass, middle and treble, so a bright clean tone doesn’t force a thin distorted one.
Built-In Spring Reverb
A level control lets you add just enough room to keep cleans from sounding flat, with no pedal on the floor.
Series Effects Loop
Puts delay and modulation after the preamp gain, where they stay clear instead of getting smeared by distortion.
How to Set Up the Head with a Speaker Cabinet
- With the amp switched off, run a speaker cable from the head’s speaker output to the cabinet. Check the impedance marked at the jacks and match it to your cabinet.
- Use an actual speaker cable, not a guitar cable. They look the same at the ends, but an instrument cable isn’t built to carry amplifier power.
- Plug your guitar into the front input, connect a two-button footswitch to the footswitch jack if you’re using one, and set both channel volumes and the master to zero.
- Power up, bring the master volume up first, then dial the clean channel EQ. Switch over and set gain, Voicing, Contour and reverb level on the overdrive channel.
Care Tip: If a knob crackles or a jack cuts out on any amp that’s been sitting for a while, that’s almost always oxidation on the pots and jack contacts rather than a real fault. Working each control through its full travel a few dozen times, or a light shot of proper electrical contact cleaner, usually clears it up. Never use household lubricants on audio pots.
