The T3 is the articulation mallet in the American Custom line. Its 1-1/4" head is smaller than the general-purpose T1, and that smaller striking surface is exactly what sharpens the front of the note — rhythmic figures land defined instead of blooming into one another.
Medium-hard felt gives it the projection to carry a rhythmic line over a full ensemble without tipping into the brittle, clicky territory of a genuinely hard mallet. It’s the pair you reach for when the part is driving and needs to be heard clearly, and a sensible second pair once a player already owns a general mallet.

Care Tip: White felt shows every mark, and that’s useful — treat discoloration as your wear indicator. A head that has gone grey and packed down at the contact point has hardened, and a hardened staccato mallet starts sounding thin rather than articulate. Handle them by the shaft and keep them out of the general stick bag scrum.
