Evans Hybrid Marching Snare Head 14 inch - Black Batter Head - SB14MHB
Evans Hybrid Marching Snare Head 14 inch – Black Batter Head – SB14MHB
The Evans Hybrid batter head is woven from two high-tensile fibers — one chosen for flexibility, one for durability — instead of the coated aramid weave most marching snare batters use. That gives it a softer feel under the sticks and a broader dynamic range, with a defined attack and darker tonal character that can be tuned low for a deep thump or tightened for a crisp crack.
This is a 14″ black batter head for the top of a marching snare drum, built for players who want more sensitivity and touch without giving up projection. It seats onto the drum with Evans’ Level 360 collar, so it comes up to pitch evenly even through the wear and tear of a marching season.
Key Features
Dual High-Tensile Fiber Weave
Two different fibers are woven together, one for flex and one for wear resistance, giving the head a distinct feel and long life.
Defined Attack, Darker Tone
Short sustain and a darker tonal character give it range from a fat, deep thump to a subdued crack, depending on tuning.
No Pinging Overtones
Built to withstand heavy hitters while keeping the snare sound focused instead of ringing.
Level 360 Collar
Seats evenly on the bearing edge for consistent tone and easier tuning, even under run-and-gun marching conditions.
Stadium Projection
Carries in the largest stadiums while staying controlled enough for indoor competitive settings.
Made in the USA
Designed, engineered, and manufactured at the Evans facility in the USA, matching the quality of the rest of the line.
How to Change a Marching Snare Batter Head
- Loosen the tension rods evenly with a drum key, then lift off the counterhoop and remove the old batter head.
- Wipe down the bearing edge and check it for grit or nicks before setting the new head on.
- Center the head on the shell, drop the hoop over it, and thread every tension rod finger-tight so the head sits square.
- Tighten in a star pattern, a half turn at a time, until you reach playing tension, then even out the pitch lug to lug by tapping beside each one.
Care Tip: A new Hybrid head settles in over the first few rehearsals, so recheck tuning after that break-in period rather than assuming the initial tension will hold — a quick touch-up around the lugs keeps the snare response consistent.
