Two plies of 7.5mil film give the MX2 a bright tone with a more pronounced attack than a single-ply head, plus the extra durability that comes with a second ply. It ships with the same modular felt damping arcs as the MX1, so you can enhance articulation and focus the low end to taste, indoors or out.
This is the step up from a single-ply bass head for a 24″ drum — the choice when your section wants a snappier attack and more durability than a 1-ply head gives up over a season of marching.

How to Position the Felt Damping Arcs
- Mount the head and bring it up to playing tension before adjusting damping, so you're hearing the true tone.
- Start with the felt arcs pulled back near the edge of the head for a brighter, more open sound.
- Slide the arcs toward the center in small increments to add control and focus the low end.
- Play a few strokes after each adjustment and stop once the attack sounds articulate without losing the drum's fullness.
Care Tip: Re-check the felt arc positions after the head settles in over the first few rehearsals — a fresh head's tone shifts slightly as it breaks in, so the damping that sounded right on day one may need a small tweak.
