Evans builds the Sound Shaping Technology ring on this head to a width and thickness chosen for a 12" drum specifically, and that is what separates the EC2S from a generic two-ply. The ring controls edge vibration instead of stopping it dead, so the ringing overtones drop away while the fundamental note and the stick attack stay where you want them.
The film itself is two plies of 7 mil, 14 mil total, in clear. That combination gives a punchy, pre-EQ’d tom voice straight out of the packet with no tape or gel required, and enough thickness to survive a season of hard playing. Sizes run from 8" through 18" if you want to match the rest of the kit.

How to Fit and Tune This Head
- Take the old head off by loosening the rods in a star pattern, then check the bearing edge for grit or old head residue and wipe it down.
- Drop the new head on and hand-tighten all six rods before reaching for the key. Getting even finger tension first is what keeps the head centred on the edge.
- Bring it up in half turns, star pattern. Tap about an inch inside each rod as you go and match those pitches to one another — that’s what removes the wobble, not the overall tension.
- Press down firmly in the middle with the heel of your hand to seat the head, then run the star pattern one more time. It will have dropped a little, and that’s normal.
Care Tip: Judge a clear head by its center, not its scuffs. Stick marks are cosmetic and cost you nothing in tone, but once the middle has stretched into a visible shallow dish and the drum won’t hold pitch across a set, the head is finished no matter how presentable it looks from the throne.
