How to Change a Snare-Side Head
- Release the snare strainer and loosen the tension rods evenly before removing the old snare-side head.
- Lift off the counterhoop, take off the old head, and wipe down the bearing edge before fitting the new one.
- Center the new head on the shell, set the hoop over it, and thread every tension rod finger-tight.
- Tighten in a star pattern to a light, even tension, then re-engage the snare strainer and adjust snare tension to taste.
Care Tip: Keep an eye on tension near the snare bed — that spot takes the most wear from the wires, and a slightly looser overall tension there can extend the head's life without hurting response.
